Colour
Colour is everywhere around us and greatly impacts how we perceive our environment. It can influence our emotions, moods, and mental activities. Artists use colour to make the viewer feel a certain way whether it is to bring happiness or convey sadness. Colour is a powerful tool.
Colour is one of the elements of art that is produced when light strikes an object and reflects back to the eye. Colour has three properties: hue (colour), intensity, and value.
It is important for artists to understand and choose colour to use it effectively during the creation of any type of art piece to better connect with their audience and create a strong piece of art.
Artist: Romero Britto
Romero Britto is an artist that loves colour! He began experimenting with it at a very young age. Britto was born in Brazil in 1963 and was one of nine children. His family was very poor and as a young boy, he would use newspapers to create art. He did this as he would get in trouble from his mother if he used his school notebooks! When Britto was 26 years old, he immigrated to Miami, Florida and began a career as an artist. He loved the colour and energy of the city which he expressed in his art.
Britto loves to spread joy and love through his colourful art. He is an activist for charitable organizations worldwide and has donated his time, art, and resources to more than 250 charities. Britto’s Style and Technique
Romeo Britto is considered a pop artist. He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colors and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope, love and happiness. Britto loves colour so much that he has a company create specific paint colours just for him!
Soaring Hearts
Britto created this piece, Soaring Hearts, in 2017. It is currently hanging at the Park West Gallery in Southfield, MI.
This piece was created using three-dimensional serigraphy construction process with colour and cut-outs. Serigraphy is a stencil-based printing process in which ink is forced through a fine screen onto the paper beneath.
